At the very beginning of my writing career I decided to set my plots in the present day and concentrated on introducing my readers to believable characters in believable situations. To support this I needed to be honest with my readers with regard to the technical aspects of each of the plots. In ‘A Cast of Hawks’ in addition to the sailing jargon in the storyline research was necessary in such areas as the workings of a PWR nuclear power station and the type of aircraft available to the US Coastguard, and the Marine Corps based in the Chesapeake. I have based my plots on real places with only one building added and another refurbished from its real derelict condition. In conducting research I have been very fortunate to meet many people whose advice and information have brought realism and a greater depth to my stories. To all those people I give my most sincere thanks as without their valuable assistance my work would appear shallow.Hollywood can produce the spectacular explosions and seemingly impossible feats of man – invisible cars, fountain pen missiles and apparently effortless travel between continents – this author however prefers to follow the path of presenting the reader with intrigue, suspense and action but most importantly a believable plot. I hope you enjoy them.
